Trade Managment

For more than 20 years, NiaCan personnel have been involved in small, medium and large-scale commodity project management whose size, scope or volumes demand specialized handling and dedicated attention. For such projects, our consulting group focuses on different primary goals such as:

  •  Ensure goods are released on time and avoid demurrage

Challenges include dealing with large payouts of duty and/or tax, tight construction deadlines, provisional entries, multiple loads, high volumes over short timeframes, coordination with multiple engineering firms, critical after-hours handling, and acting as a liaison between the client, carrier, engineer and border control personal.

  •  Ensure duties and taxes are minimized and paid on time

The extensive experience of our technical staff translates into substantial value for our clients. We maintain a comprehensive database of preferential rulings, and we research all available relief provisions to ensure each client pays the lowest allowable rate for imports into destination country.

  •  Ensure customs compliance is maintained to destination country standards

Errors can slip into the supply chain at so many points. Using electronic data fed directly from our clients, we are able to identify errors in pricing, shipping terms, texes and other areas prior to the import of goods and to proactively eliminate compliance problems.

Working well in advance of the import of goods is key to our success. Especially for projects using multiple Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) parties, close attention and careful coordination are crucial. Our consulting involvement begins as early as the qualification stage for suppliers. We assist EPCs and their buyers in identifying potential import issues and duty relief opportunities, allowing them to make more informed and cost-effective decisions.

We review every purchase order as it is issued to identify import duty, any specialized import program that may assist the project, relief potential to reduce costs, relief opportunities for domestic vendors that can be passed through to the project, and compliance issues to prevent penalties. We work directly with specially appointed CBSA liaisons to ensure all products for a project flow uninterrupted to the site at the lowest possible cost.

When it comes to expediting goods across the border, reducing costs, minimizing penalties or border control involvement, and assisting in all trade-related areas, Cole International is an extremely valuable partner with the know-how and experience to help ensure your project is built on time and on budget.
